About This Landmark

Serbian Orthodox Church

The Church of the Dormition of the Most Holy Mother of God is the oldest Orthodox church in the Livno field, built in 1859. Since then, it has undergone several smaller and larger restorations, and the latest and most extensive has been underway since 2000, prompted both by the passage of time and by damage caused during the war, when the church bell tower was set on fire.

With the arrival of the priest in Livno in 2001, a General Restoration Project was drawn up. The temple was painted and put back into liturgical use, after which work began on restoring the bell tower and altar apse, as well as installing drainage around the church.

The valuable icons belonging to the church were restored in 2010 at the Museum of Republika Srpska, while the roof was completely replaced in 2014. Thanks to these restorations, the church has preserved its spiritual and cultural significance, remaining an important symbol of the Orthodox community in Livno.
