Lala Pasha Mosque
Beglučka Mosque, also known as the Lala Pasha Mosque, was built in 1576 and is one of the most significant religious buildings in Livno. According to the inscription above the entrance, its founder was the sanjak-bey of Klis, Lala Mustafa Pasha Sokolović, after whom the mosque was named.
This mosque is especially interesting for its connection with timekeeping and the movement of the Sun. Namely, it also has a sundial - the work of the well-known muezzin Hadži Jusuf Livnjak - which bears witness to the developed tradition and knowledge of that period.
In the immediate vicinity of the mosque there once stood the Beglučki mekteb, as well as other waqf buildings that formed an important educational and religious center. The travel writer Evliya Çelebi also mentions the Musala next to the mosque, where prayers were performed until 1878, and later prayers were recited there when seeing off pilgrims on their way to Hajj.
Beglučka Mosque is therefore not only an architectural monument, but also an important part of Livno's spiritual and social life through the centuries.
