About This Landmark

Franciscan Museum and Gallery Gorica

The Franciscan Museum and Gallery Gorica traces its beginnings to the second half of the 19th century, when the Franciscans, driven by an awareness of the importance of preserving cultural heritage, began systematically collecting antiquities and visiting archaeological sites throughout the Livno area. Their enthusiasm and dedication laid the foundations of today’s rich museum collection.

A special place is held by the sacred collection, which includes valuable paintings, sculptures, liturgical vessels, and church vestments collected from the monastery church, as well as from the surrounding parishes in Livno. These items bear witness to the spiritual and artistic life of this region through the centuries.

Among the most valuable exhibits is a portable altar from 1804 – a rare and exceptionally significant example of sacred heritage, which, according to available data, is believed to be uniquely preserved in Livno.
