About This Landmark
The historical bridge of Velabisht
The historic Velabisht Bridge, built in the 18th century by Ismail Pasha Velabishti, is an important monument of Ottoman architecture that connects Berat with the surrounding areas. Built of limestone, it consists of three arches and two portcullises, with a refined design that combines different architectural forms. Initially with a sloping deck for caravans, the bridge has been adapted over time for the passage of vehicles, while maintaining its beauty and function. Today it remains an attractive point for visitors, but faces challenges such as degradation and inappropriate use. For this reason, its preservation and restoration are essential to protect the historical and cultural values it represents.
