Source of the Pliva
The Pliva Springs are one of those places that leave you speechless—and then compel you to return. Located in the village of Pljeva, just 15 kilometers from Šipovo, these beautiful springs emerge from beneath the slopes of the Jastrebnjak and Smiljevac mountains. It is believed that the water travels all the way from the distant Glamočko Polje through deep underground channels, bursting onto the surface at a bone-chilling 8°C—a constant temperature through winter and summer, proving it originates from great depths. Due to the exceptional capacity of the springs, the source area of the Pliva River is considered one of the largest drinking water sources in Europe.
The two main springs are located a little over a kilometer apart, and an organized 2-kilometer circular trail runs along the river to each of them—safe, flat, and accessible to all ages. Along the way, you will discover old watermills that still grind flour, resting benches accompanied by the soothing sound of rushing water, lush meadows with gazebos, and authentic local households offering homemade food and accommodation. Here, nature rules completely and without compromise—the sounds of the river, the scent of the forest, and the shifting colors of the seasons make the Pliva Springs a destination that leaves no one indifferent.
