Remains of the Church of St. Anthony of Padua
The Church of St. Anthony of Padua is a unique feature of Bihać, as three churches dedicated to the same saint have developed on this site throughout history.
The first church was built as early as 1266 in the Gothic style as a city church under the administration of the Dominicans. During the Ottoman period, it was converted into the Fethija Mosque, and today it is an important national monument.
The second Church of St. Anthony was built at the end of the 19th century and was expanded several times over the years. Although it was badly damaged during the war, its remains, including the tower and the tomb of the Bihać nobility, still bear witness to its former importance.
The present, third church was built in 1972 and serves as the parish church for the Catholics of Bihać. It is recognizable for its octagonal shape and represents a modern spiritual center, continuing the long tradition of devotion to St. Anthony of Padua in Bihać.
