About This Landmark
Peqin Castle
Peqin Castle is one of the most important historical monuments of the city, with origins dating back to the Roman period and the ancient Via Egnatia road. It was built on ancient foundations, and during the Ottoman period it was rebuilt and expanded, transforming into an important administrative and military center.
The castle once had high defensive walls, internal buildings, and underground tunnels that served as emergency exits in times of danger. Although today only reconstructed parts and traces of the old structure remain, the Castle remains a symbol of Peqin's historical identity and an important point for tourists who want to discover the region's past.
