About This Landmark
Gorica Castle
The Gorica fortification had a strategic role, as together with the Berat fortress it controlled the narrow Osumi valley and the roads to Tepelena. It covers an area of about 1.5 hectares and includes 167-meter-long surrounding walls, four defensive towers and two entrances. The walls, built with the pseudo-isodomic technique and large stones, reach a thickness of up to 3.1 meters and an average height of 1 meter. Based on the construction style, the fortification dates back to the 4th–3rd centuries BC.
