About This Activity

Jahorina Ski Resort

The ski slopes on Jahorina are one of the most important winter sports destinations in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region. The mountain is world-renowned for hosting the women's alpine events during the 1984 Winter Olympic Games, and today offers groomed slopes, modern gondolas and chairlifts, as well as facilities for recreational and experienced skiers. Jahorina attracts visitors with its combination of Olympic heritage, mountain scenery, and a rich winter tourism offering.

What Makes It Special

An Olympic mountain that still breathes 1984

Jahorina has held the status of an Olympic mountain ever since the women's alpine events were held on its slopes at the 1984 Winter Olympic Games in Sarajevo. That tradition left its mark not only in the names of the runs — Olympic downhill, Olympic giant slalom — but also in the very layout of the terrain, carefully designed for top-level skiing. Today, more than four decades later, Jahorina still combines that Olympic spirit with modern infrastructure: an artificial snowmaking system, fast gondolas, and chairlifts that minimize waiting on the slopes.

Runs for every level

From gentle blue runs ideal for your first independent turns to demanding black runs reserved for experienced skiers, Jahorina offers a range that suits everyone. The Olympic downhill, with a drop of almost 550 meters in elevation, remains reserved for the most confident skiers, while the forest variants above Poljice and the new, gentler runs near the Trnovo six-seater provide a safe environment for those just moving from ski school to independent skiing. Combining the descent from the top of the Poljice gondola with a switch to a gentler route allows for a longer ride without sudden steep sections.

A night for skiing on Jahorina

Few ski resorts in the region offer an experience like night skiing on Jahorina. When the sun goes down, floodlights meeting FIS standards illuminate nearly nine kilometers of carefully prepared slopes — Poljice, Novak Đoković, Trnovo, Skočine — while gondolas and chairlifts continue taking skiers to the top until late in the evening. Fresh artificial snow and a quieter atmosphere without daytime crowds make night skiing a special experience that many describe as the highlight of a stay on the mountain.

150 days covered in snow

Jahorina is among the few ski resorts south of the Alps where snow cover can be planned with confidence. For an average of more than 150 days a year, the mountain is covered in snow, and in February the depth can reach up to three meters. The season usually starts in mid-December and lasts until the end of March, but mild spring conditions often extend skiing until mid-April — making Jahorina one of the longest-active ski resorts in the region.
