About This Landmark

Andrićgrad

Andrićgrad, also known as Kamengrad, is a unique stone town and cultural-tourism complex in Višegrad, on a peninsula at the confluence of the Drina and Rzav rivers, just a few dozen steps from the famous Višegrad bridge. The creator of this unusual place is film director Emir Kusturica, who envisioned it as a town inspired by the work and characters of Nobel laureate Ivo Andrić. Open to visitors since 2012, Andrićgrad is built entirely of stone and brings together around twenty buildings in a small area.

Its special appeal lies in its architecture, which blends different eras — from Byzantine and Ottoman motifs, through the Renaissance, to Classicism — so a walk down the main street feels like a journey through time. Inside the walls are a cinema, galleries, the Ivo Andrić Institute, a church, hotels, restaurants, cafés, and a river marina. Andrićgrad is now a favorite place for walks, cultural events, and relaxation by two rivers.
