Archaeological Site “Gradac”

The archaeological site of Gradac, located between Ljubunci and Uzdol in the municipality of Prozor-Rama, is one of the most important sites in this part of Herzegovina. Research led by Professor Snježana Vasilj uncovered Roman water cisterns, as well as traces of a settlement that developed from prehistory to the 5th century. The most interesting detail of the site is the carved figure of the Illyrian god Silvan, the god of shepherds according to Roman interpretations, which testifies to the religious customs of the ancient population. The site is also an educational and cultural attraction, and future research should reveal even more details about its history and function.
