About This Landmark

Stećak necropolis Biskup

The Grčka glavica necropolis is located in the village of Biskup near Glavatičevo, about 30 km southeast of Konjic. Along a gravel road, on the hill of the same name, there are remains of a medieval church and the family cemetery of the noble Sanković family, which ruled much of the land of Hum in the 14th century.

The necropolis was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2016, and has held the status of a national monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina since 2004. It contains 172 stećci and many unmarked graves on an area of about 1,700 m², and was excavated in 1954-1955.
