About This Landmark

Dugo polje stećci necropolis

The Dugo polje necropolis is located on the karst plateau of Blidinje, at the foot of Mount Vran, near Blidinje Lake, in the municipality of Jablanica. It covers an area of 90 x 36 m and consists of 150 stećci carved from the surrounding limestone – slabs, chests and gabled tombstones.

The necropolis was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2016 and has the status of a national monument of BiH. Of the total number, 32 stećci are decorated with motifs of rosettes, crescents and crosses, and the scenes of hunting, knightly tournaments and folk dances are especially notable. The site is today in good condition, in an almost uninhabited area.
