About This Landmark

Selimija Mosque

Located right at the foot of the medieval Gradina Fortress, Selimija Mosque is an invaluable gem of Doboj’s bazaar. It is also known as the Upper Mosque or the Bazaar Mosque. As the endowment of Sultan Selim I from 1520, it is among the oldest Islamic buildings in Bosnia and Herzegovina. For centuries, this imperial mosque has been the center of life in the old part of town, blending Oriental architecture with the spirit of times gone by. It offers visitors a peaceful atmosphere and an authentic insight into the long tradition of the marketplace that developed beneath the fortress walls.
