About This Landmark
Mile – Arnautovići
The archaeological site of Mili in Arnautovići near Visoko is the holiest ground of Bosnian statehood — the place where the first Bosnian king, Tvrtko I Kotromanić, was crowned and buried, where the nobility gathered for the state assembly, and where the first Franciscan monastery in Bosnia was founded.
The foundations of Romanesque and Gothic churches, the remains of a royal brocade cloak woven from gold threads with the Kotromanić coat of arms, pottery, and artifacts that testify to a vibrant political and economic center — all await those who pause on this peaceful stretch of land by the Bosna River. Declared a national monument in 2003, the Mili site is not just an archaeological site — it is the cradle of the Bosnian crown.
